When I try to log in to Universal Type Server with Universal Type Client, I get the following login error: “This version of the Universal Type Client is not compatible with the version of the Universal Type Server you are connecting to.”
With the introduction of TurboSync in Universal Type Server 4.1, Universal Type Client 4.1 and later checks the version of the server when trying to synchronize with UTS. If the major and minor version numbers for UTS are not the same as or higher than the version numbers for UTC, you will get an error dialog.
Universal Type Server 5.2.x will only accept connections from UTC 5.2.x back to UTC 4.1. Universal Type Server 6.0.x will only accept connections from UTC 6.0.x and all versions of UTC 5. Universal Type Server 6.1.x will only accept connections from UTC 6.1.x and all versions of UTC 5.
NOTE: Universal Type Server 6.1.0 introduced a change that caused Universal Type Client 6.0.2 and earlier to fail to log in when using user accounts from Active Directory or Open Directory. This was addressed in UTS 6.1.1 and is unrelated to this issue.
Users who have upgraded to UTC 6.1.x and want to connect to older versions of UTS 6 and UTS 5 should either upgrade to the latest version of Universal Type Server or install an older compatible version of the client.
