Description
When moving assets to a different location and updating the watchfolder paths in Portfolio, it needs to be done in a very specific order, or you may end up with duplicate assets in your catalogs
Environment
This article covers all version of Portfolio Server 3.x on Windows Server and Mac OS systems. This must be performed on the server Portfolio is installed on. This should not be performed by anyone other than an IT professional
Solution
* Prior to performing this we suggest making sure you have a recent Porfolio backup in the event you have trouble connecting to the new watchfolder location and need to roll back.
1. Double click the watchfolder and copy the path (this makes entering in the old watchfolder path easier in step 4)
2. Remove the current watchfolder from the catalog by selecting the watchfolder and clicking the "-" icon in the bottom left
3. This will prompt a window asking if you want to "Remove Watch Folder". Select "Remove" Make sure the box labeled "Remove Assets from Catalog" is not checked, or the assets will be removed from the catalog along with the current watchfolder
4. Next you'll run the Update Paths Script
Windows
1. Open a Command Prompt window
2. Enter cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Extensis\Portfolio Server\applications\
MAKE SURE THAT THE INFORMATION YOU ENTER IS EXACT AND CASE SENSITIVE
3. After you press Enter, the script will scan the records in the catalog, display the results, and ask if you want to proceed:
22799 assets match the path "::OldServer:OldShare:'
Do you want to update the path to '::NewServer:NewShare:'?
Press [Y/N] and Enter:
Press "y" and Enter. When the script is done running, you will see:
Updating paths........
Job completed
Mac OS
1.Open the Terminal window
2. Enter cd "/Applications/Extensis/Portfolio Server/applications/"
5. Return to the Portfolio client and add the watchfolder back with the updated path and desired sync options by clicking the "+" icon
