Affected versions
This article applies to Suitcase Fusion for Mac and Suitcase Fusion for Windows versions 19 (Suitcase Fusion 8) through 22.
Symptoms
When you open Suitcase Fusion you get one of two errors; clicking OK quits the application.
Solution
The database file in the Suitcase Fusion font vault is incomplete or damaged and can't be opened by Suitcase Fusion. This can happen when upgrading Suitcase Fusion to a new version and the database is already damaged, or if the font vault is moved or removed while the type core is running. You must remove the old font vault and let Suitcase Fusion create a new one.
Removing the font vault for Suitcase Fusion for Mac
In the Finder, select the Go menu and hold the Option key down; a Library menu option will be added. Select Library.
In the Library folder, open the Extensis folder and drag the Suitcase Fusion folder to the Desktop. The next time you open Suitcase Fusion a new, empty font vault will be created.
Removing the font vault for Suitcase Fusion for Windows
- Open a File Explorer window
- In the address bar, enter
%localappdata%
and press Enter - Open the Extensis folder
- Drag the Suitcase Fusion folder to the Desktop
Creating a new font vault
If you have cloud libraries, Suitcase Fusion will download those libraries into the new vault automatically once you log in.
If you don't have any cloud libraries but you have a Suitcase Fusion archive, you can restore the archive to recover your font libraries. For more information, go to Restoring from a Suitcase Fusion archive.
If you only have local libraries and you do not have a Suitcase Fusion archive, you can collect your fonts out of the old font vault and add them to the new vault. You will have to recreate your font sets by hand.
Collecting the fonts from the old font vault on macOS
- Open the Suitcase Fusion folder on the Desktop
- Control-click on the Suitcase Fusion.fontvault file
- Choose Show Package Contents from the dropdown menu; the font vault will open in a new Finder window
- Open the "SA" folder
- Drag the "l" folder to the Desktop
Collecting the fonts from the old font vault on Windows
