Affected versions
This article applies to Suitcase Fusion for Mac versions 19 (Suitcase Fusion 8) through 22.
Symptoms
When you open Suitcase Fusion for Mac you get an error dialog; clicking OK quits the application.

Solution
When Suitcase Fusion opens it connects to the type core–the background process that activates and deactivates fonts. Universal Type Client also uses a type core; each application starts the type core in a different mode (client/server mode versus standalone mode).
If the type core is running in client/server mode, from being started by UTC, starting Suitcase Fusion will produce the above error dialog.
Stopping the Universal Type Client type core on macOS
- Open Universal Type Client
- Choose Universal Type Client > Preferences
- Click the Type Core tab, then click Stop Type Core; UTC will close
You can also stop the type core opening Activity Monitor and forcing the FMCore process to quit.
Stopping the Universal Type Client type core on Windows
- Open Universal Type Client
- Choose Edit > Preferences
- Click the Type Core tab, then click Stop Type Core; UTC will close
You can also stop the type core opening Task Manager and forcing the FMCore.exe process to quit.
Once the type core has been stopped, you can open Suitcase Fusion normally.
