The Connect Missing Font dialog may display one or more of the following messages when fonts are missing or unavailable to a user:
Important
Whenever a replacement font is used in a project, the entire project should be reviewed to ensure the selected font(s) comply with the brand's typography guidelines.
Example 1: Font with Font Sense ID but No Replacement Available
In this scenario, a project opens with a font that includes an embedded Font Sense ID, but no possible replacement fonts appear in the Original Version section of the Missing Font dialog.
This indicates that:
- The project was previously created using an Extensis product that embedded a Font Sense ID
- The font is not available in the current Connect user's font libraries
- No fonts with similar names or suitable replacements have been identified
Corrective Steps:
- Click the "SKIP" button
- Select a replacement font after the project file opens
- Locate the missing font using Adobe's missing font highlights (a default font will be applied temporarily)
- Replace the missing font as needed
- Save / re-save the project file
Example 2: Font Identified Without Font Sense ID or Replacement Options
In this scenario, the original font version has been identified, but the Original Version section of the Missing Font dialog shows no additional information—no Font Sense ID, Foundry details, or Possible Replacements.
This indicates that:
- The project has never been used with an Extensis product
- Font Sense data was not embedded for this font
- No fonts with similar names or suitable replacements have been identified
Corrective Steps: Follow the same steps as Example 1:
- Click the "SKIP" button
- Select a replacement font after the project file opens
- Locate the missing font using Adobe's missing font highlights (a default font will be applied temporarily)
- Replace the missing font as needed
- Save / re-save the project file
Example 3: Font Identified with Possible Replacements but No Font Sense Data
In this scenario, the original font version has been identified, but the Original Version section of the Missing Font dialog shows no Font Sense ID or version number. However, the Possible Replacements section displays suggested fonts with similar names.
This indicates that:
- The project has not been used with an Extensis product
- Font Sense data was not embedded for this font
- The system has identified potential replacement fonts based on name similarity
Corrective Steps: The user has two options:
Option 1: Use a Suggested Replacement
- Select one of the suggested fonts from the Possible Replacements section
- Click "Next" to apply the replacement
- Save / re-save the project file once it has been fully opened
Option 2: Choose a Different Font
- Click the "SKIP" button
- Select a replacement font after the project file opens
- Locate the missing font using Adobe's missing font highlights (a default font will be applied temporarily)
- Replace the missing font as needed
- Save / re-save the project file
