Environments Affected
The following information applies to Universal Type Server versions 7.0.2 and higher running on all support operating systems.
Users or Profiles Affected
This article only applies to Administrative owners of Extensis Universal Type Server Accounts.
You must be the Administrative user (the UTS Administrator) in order to complete the following steps. These steps require your Extensis account credentials in order to authorize the server.

Explanation
We know having to keep track of serial numbers is cumbersome. This is why Extensis has changed the way Universal Type Server obtains licenses, and why we have removed the use of serial numbers to activate our products.
This process simplifies and allows our customers to activate and update just by using your email credentials – Something you already know!

First Time Activation of Universal Type Server

Activating/Serializing UTS 7.0.2 and Later (Video)
Step 1:
Log in to the User Management Application with the 'Administrator' (default) account.
Note: The UTS User Administration login page can be found using your servers IP address or DNS address and port 8080. More information on accessing this can be found here:

Step 2:
Next, click on the Administration tab.
Step 3:
In the Licenses pane, select "Activate Universal Type Server".
Note: If you are currently running a demo of UTS, simply remove the demo serial numbers to activate UTS – Just click the Remove button on this screen.
Step 4:
Enter the email address and password for your Extensis account that is the Administrative user of the UTS licenses. This is typically the owner of the Universal Type Server account.

Step 5:
Select your license. If you have more than one license for universal Type Server, it will be display. Select the license by clicking the 'Select' button to the left of the licenses System ID number.
You're Done!
The Administration panel will now display the email address, the end of the support maintenance period and any additional features that have been activated.
Updating your Universal Type Server License(s)
This section covers updating your Universal Type Server Licenses if changes or updates have occurred with your Universal Type Server license in any way.
This includes:
- Seat Additions
- Seat Removals
- Enterprise Upgrade
- FontLink Add-on
- Core Client Add-on
- Service agreement date changes
- Or, any other changes to your Extensis account
This process requires removing and re-entering your license(s) for the Universal Type Server application.
Just as the initial licensing process required, you will need to be the Administrative user (UTS Administrator) in order to complete the following steps. These steps require the Extensis product owner’s credentials in order to authorize the server.

Step 1:
Log in to the User Management Application with the default 'administrator' account.
Step 2:
Next, click on the Administration tab. In the Licenses pane, select "Activate Universal Type Server".
Step 3:
In this tab, you will see your Licenses currently assigned to this instance of UTS as in the example shown below:
Step 4:
Select the “Remove” button under the licensing name column.
Step 5:
A message prompt will appear asking “Are you sure you want to remove your licenses?” - Select ‘OK’ and it will remove your current license.
Step 6:
Now select the "Activate Universal Type Server".
Step 7:
Enter the email address and password for your Extensis account that is the Administrative user of the UTS licenses. This is typically the owner of the Universal Type Server account.
You're Done!
The Administration panel will now display the email address, the end of the support maintenance period and any additional features that have been activated.
Entering Trial Serial Numbers
If you want to trial our Universal Type Server application, you can request a trial serial number, which will enable Universal Type Server for a limited time.
Note: Universal Type Server version 7.0.2 and later will only accept trial serial numbers. Serial numbers received for full product registration from versions 7.0.0 and 7.0.1 of Universal Type Server 7 will not be accepted.
Step 1:
Log in to the User Management Application with the 'Administrator' (default) account.
Note: The UTS User Administration login page can be found using your servers IP address or DNS address and port 8080.
Step 2:
Next, click on the Administration tab.
Step 3:
In the Licenses pane, select "Trial Universal Type Server".
Step 4:
Enter the trial serial number and click Submit.
If you have trial serial numbers for other features such as UTS Enterprise Edition or Universal Type Core Client, you can enter them all at once, one serial number per line.
You're Done!
The Licenses pane will now display the expiration dates for the trial versions you have entered.
Note - If you want to remove a trial serial number, select it and click Remove.
