Starting with version 7.0.12, Universal Type Client and its auto-activation plug-ins are fully compatible with Apple’s M1 systems.
However, the Extensis Font Panel for Adobe Photoshop is not yet ready for Apple’s M1 systems.
The rest of this article details using Apple’s Rosetta technology to use the Font Panel and auto-activation plug-in with Photoshop.
Photoshop uses a whole new architecture for panels on M1 systems. Rather than withhold the auto-activation functionality of our plug-in while we continue working on Font Panel support, we decided to release the Photoshop plug-in without the Font Panel. We are still working to add this functionality for a later release.
Fortunately, Photoshop and our auto-activation plug-in—including the Font Panel—work fine using Apple’s Rosetta.
If you want to use Photoshop with the Font Panel, you can start Photoshop using Rosetta. (This means that your Mac will run Photoshop and its plug-ins by translating the Intel code to run on the M1 processor.) To do this:
-
Quit Photoshop and Universal Type Client.
-
In the Finder, select the Photoshop icon and choose File > Get Info.
-
In the Info window, select Open using Rosetta.
-
Close the Info window.
-
Start Photoshop.
If you are prompted to install Rosetta, click Install, then start Photoshop again.
For more on installing Rosetta, see this Apple article.
-
Quit Photoshop.
-
Start Universal Type Client and ensure that the Photoshop plug-in is installed and active.
