Q: Why did Monotype acquire Extensis?
A: The acquisition, announced November 18, 2024, allows Monotype to combine its extensive font library (250,000+ fonts) with Connects font and asset management technologies, aiming to create a unified, end-to-end font inventory + software solution. It gives Monotype stronger tools in managing font deployment, activation, licensing, and creative workflows.

Q: Will Extensis Connect change?
A: Yes, it already has! One of our key objectives was to quickly bring value to customers from the acquisition. We have renamed Extensis Connect to Monotype Connect, and there are three versions to choose from depending on your business needs.
For Brands:
- Monotype Connect - Font management
- Monotype Connect Pro - Deploy and govern fonts at scale
For Agencies
- Monotype Connect for Agencies - Create, quote, and collaborate seamlessly
Q: Will existing Monotype Connect customers lose anything?
A: Monotype has stated that continuity of services is a priority, existing customers should not see interruptions during integration.
That said, the look and feel of the UI has changed and there are new plans as listed above. Changes in licensing models and pricing may come.
Q. Should MTF customers move to Monotype Connect?
A. We are not requiring all MTF customers to move to Monotype Connect at this time. However, Monotype Connect does come with many additional features that we believe our customers will benefit from, such as:
- It has a more comprehensive solution for font management, making it ideal for complex workflows that need large numbers of projects and fonts.
- It excels at features like on-demand font activation, font compliance tracking, and Adobe Creative Cloud integration, which are critical for teams managing complex workflows.
- It includes tools like Font Sense precision identification and project risk scanning, which proactively address licensing and operational risks.
- It offers multi-account switching capabilities, making it especially valuable for agencies managing multiple clients or freelancers working with various organizations.
