Description
We've moved, decommissioned, or migrated our Domain Controller and need to update the configuration in Universal Type Server’s Directory Services.
Environment
This article covers Universal Type Server 7 in all supported environments.
Solution
If the only thing that has changed is the address to the Domain Controller, you can run this script directly on the Universal Type Server system to change the address:
Mac OS: Update DC Script (Mac OS)
Windows OS: Update DC Script (Windows)
When the process has been completed you should see “Update 1” at the bottom of the command line window.
NOTE: If you have made any structural or organizational changes to your Active Directory structure the script will do more harm than good. We recommend that if you are currently configured to use an IP address, you should use the DNS name when you run the script.
If you have made structural or organizational changes to your AD structure you will have to remove the current configuration and re-create your mappings. For a guide on setting up Directory Services in Universal Type Server, please see Active Directory in online Help.
We recommend the following before proceeding:
- Take screenshots of your mappings in each workgroup. This will make re-applying them much easier.
- Make sure you have a clean and healthy Universal Type Server backup should you need to revert to your previous configuration.
- Wait to decommission the old domain controller, otherwise you may not be able to view your mappings before removing them.
During this process users added through Active Directory will be temporarily converted to native user accounts. Once the new configuration is in place and the mappings re-created, the users should convert back as LDAP users (as long as their Active Directory shortname has not changed.)
