Description
Files with the extension ._00 or similar are showing up in our watchfolders without being manually created
Environment
This article covers Portfolio 3 and 4 in all supported macOS and Windows environments
Cause
There are generally two possible causes for this:
1. An Adobe application like Photoshop or Bridge creates the temporary files but are having trouble removing them when finished
2. Portfolio creates the temporary files when embedding metadata back to your assets. If the account the Portfolio processes are running under do not have proper permissions in the root of the watchfolder on-disk, then it will be unable to purge these files
Solution
If the issue seems to stem specifically from Adobe format files (.psd, .ai, etc.) then we recommend contacting Adobe for troubleshooting steps first
If the issue seems to occur with no specific asset file types make sure that permissions at the root of the watched folder on-disk are correct:
Windows OS File Storage: The account Portfolio's services are running under should have "Full Control" at the root level of the folder the catalog is watching. Check inherited permissions on the folder as well
Linux Based File Storage: Check umask to ensure that either of the following permissions are set at the root of the watched folder for the account running Portfolio: rw-rw-rw--@ or rw-rw-r--@
