Affected versions
This article applies to all versions of Connect Fonts for Mac and Windows.
Symptoms
When you open Connect Fonts for Mac or Windows, you get one of two errors; clicking OK quits the application.
Solution
The database file in the font vault is incomplete or damaged and can't be opened. This can happen when upgrading Connect Fonts to a new version and the database is already damaged, or if the font vault is moved or removed while the type core is running.
You must remove the old font vault from it's default location and let the application create a new one.
MAC OS: Removing the font vault
In the Finder, select the Go menu > Library.
If Library is not showing, press the Option key; a Library menu option will be added > Select Library.
In the Library folder, open the Extensis folder and drag the Connect Fonts folder to the Desktop. (If you use, or upgraded from Suitcase Fusion, then you may have a Suitcase Fusion folder.)
NOTE: Do not delete the fontvault at this time.
The next time you open the application a new, empty font vault will be created.
Windows: Removing the font vault
- Open a File Explorer window
- In the address bar, enter
%localappdata%
and press Enter - Open the Extensis folder
- Drag the Connect Fonts folder to the Desktop (whichever you have)
- NOTE: Do not delete the fontvault at this time
- The next time you open the application a new, empty font vault will be created.
Creating a new font vault
If you have cloud libraries enabled, Connect Fonts will download those libraries into the new vault automatically once you log in.
If you don't have any cloud libraries but you have a Connect Fonts archive, you can restore the archive to recover your font libraries.
If you only have local libraries and you do not have a Connect archive, you can collect your fonts out of the old font vault and add them to the new vault. You will have to recreate your font sets by hand.
Mac OS: Collecting the fonts from the old font vault
- Open the Connect Fonts folder on the Desktop
- Control-click on the .fontvault file
- Choose "Show Package Contents" from the dropdown menu; the font vault will open in a new Finder window
- Open the "SA" folder
- Drag the "l" folder into your font library under Local Libraries to add your fonts to the new font vault.
Windows: Collecting the fonts from the old font vault
- Open the Connect Fonts folder on the Desktop
- Open the .fontvault folder
- Open the "SA" folder
- Drag the "l" folder into your font library under Local Libraries to add your fonts to the new font vault.
Once the fonts have been added back into Connect Fonts, you can delete the "I" folder under the library.
You can also delete the .fontvault file or folder on your desktop.
